Great, local Italian food at Liberatore’s

The fanciest of the Liberatore brothers’ establishments brings you inviting touches, like house-made pasta, well-rendered classics, and beautifully painted murals. Tuxedoed waiters and formal service might lead you to consider this Tuscan knight a venue for special celebrations, but hey, don’t you deserve good Italian whenever you want it? That’s just what you’ll get here. There’s nothing earth-shaking, mind you, but well-rendered versions of classics like grilled polenta with mushrooms, veal saltimbocca, and seafood risotto will send you home happy. Beautifully painted murals of cornucopia spilling over with fruits and vegetables along with cherubs on the wing in verdant settings lend a certain opulence to what is otherwise the well-disguised first floor of a suburban office building. In warm weather, a romantic patio beckons. There’s also a decent Italian wine list for everyday dining. If you’re splurging, ask for the reserve list; there are treasures gently napping the years away in the wine cellar.

Sushi, anyone? Local, affordable, and recommended

San Sushi Too located in Towson, MD, and has a young and vibrant atmosphere reflecting the professionals and university in the area. Since opening in 1993, San Sushi Too has grown and expanded three times. It now incorporates a Thai Restaurant, Thai One On. The two restaurants share dinning rooms, the Sushi Bar, and the Buddha Lounge.
The “B Lounge” as it is known has a comfortable seating area, cocktail bar, and dance floor where you can relax while waiting for your table, or hang out with friends after dinner. Over the weekend they have music and dancing after the dinning areas close. The Sushi Bar has seating for 14 where you can watch the three Sushi Chefs create their magic.
San Sushi Too offers a complete selection of Sushi prepared in the three traditional styles: Maki, Nargi, and Sashimi. The Maki style is the roll style as in the good old California Roll. Maki can be any combination of assorted vegetables, seafood and rice rolled on seaweed paper.

Nagari is formed rice blocks with slices of seafood on top. Depending on the specific seafood, it will be cooked, pickled or raw.

There is even a cooked egg and a raw egg, TMI. Lastly, the Sushimi style is raw seafood slices over a bed of rice or vegetable. So there are an infinite number of combinations possible and this is where San Sushi Too shines. They make up all their sauces from fresh ingredients. And if they don’t have it listed they will be glad to make for you. The Sushi Board features 18 House Sushi Specials besides what is listed on the menu, so you have to come check out San Sushi Too.

Thai One On features green and red curries. Thai food is rich in flavor and typically is accompanied with rice. Other ingredients include coconut milk and lemon grass, which with the curry sauces give it its exotic flavors. The Green Curry is the hotter of the two, and is made from garlic, basil and dried peppers but speak to your waiter if you are concerned and they can make it a bit milder upon request.

The Red Curry is a bit milder made with curry paste and a fresh pepper sauce. Most dishes can be prepared with Shrimp, Beef or Chicken. You can enjoy your meal because Thai food is inherently low in fat and calories. And for the vegetarian in us all, there are plenty of great dishes, try it for a change.

The Menu is a compilation of the Sushi, Japanese and Thai offerings. You can order from all three sections, and mix and match to your senses delight. The Japanese portion of the menu features a full array of Appetizers including Soups, Salads, Tempura, and Grilled Appetizers. The Japanese Entrees include: Teriyaki, Sukiyaki, Nabe, and Soba Dishes. There is a lot to explore and just double click on the menu button to see the full menu.

The key to San Sushi Too and Thai One On success is their homemade sauces and the fresh ingredients. They are one of the treasures of Towson, and you have to experience it for yourself. Have a great meal!

Towson & Lutherville School Systems

When it comes to choosing a town in the Baltimore area for you and your family, Lutherville is highly recommended. The Lutherville/Timonium area is located north of Towson and is very burby & quiet yet very accessible and easy on the commute. Lutherville Laboratory for Science, Mathematics and Communication has been voted as a National Blue Ribbon School, and this year Ridgely Middle School (in the same district) was voted a National Blue Ribbon School. Dulaney High School would be your students’ next step, also being a Blue Ribbon School and ranked #259 nationwide in Newsweek magazine’s 2010 survey of top high schools in the U.S. There is a before- and after-school drop-off childcare program offered on-location at the school, with terrific hours. This is a public school system – but surrounding the area are also many renowned private schools, such as Loyola Blakefield, Calvert Hall College High School, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Maryvale Preparatory School. The crime is very low and the schools are great. In the newer side of town you can pick up a nice 4 bedroom 1960′s split level for 320-350K or so, or a slightly smaller home for 280-320. The communities are very strong with very convenient locations nearby as far as restaurants and shopping go.

The Best of Towson nightlife

For some, choosing a nightlight location to hang out near their homes may be a difficult task. Luckily, those living in uptown Towson have the advantage of close proximity to plenty of places to appease those in the hunt. The Crease has the best ladies’ night, whereas The Green Turtle has the most televisions. Lil’ Dicky’s, The Kent and Souris’ Saloon all have cozy atmospheres. But the best nightlife location in Towson is said to be The Rec Room. Between the people, drink specials, and relaxed environments (compared to B Lounge and the like) there is no competition. During the warmer months, nothing beats having an ice-cold beer with friends on The Rec Room’s indoor/outdoor patio. You can go to Towson bars on any night and see someone who you know and plenty more who you don’t.

If you can’t make it out to the arena or stadium because of lack of transportation or lack of funds, heading up the street to Bateman’s or the Green Turtle is a great alternative. If you’re there with some friends, everything is much more enjoyable, and if you’re of age, alcoholic beverages can lighten the mood even more. Different games are shown on the several TVs at both venues, which gives the viewer more of a choice of what to watch, something most Towson students don’t have the luxury of having.

Looking for an up and coming, engaging and exciting place to live? Look no further!

The editors of CNN’s Money Magazine have placed Towson in the top 25 “best places for the rich and single.” In fact, Towson, with its median family income of $102,302, and its population of 52,301, of which 35.4 percent are single, placed 14th nationally. Towson is ranked amongst other popular thriving US cities, including Newport Beach, California with 30 percent of its population single and median family income of $1! 44,917. Towson even left San Jose, California in the dust, in 15th place.

The magazine says the following about Towson:

“This small community near Baltimore boasts a significant population of professors as the home of Towson University and Goucher College, two of the biggest employers in the area.

“On Friday nights, academics loosen their bow ties and swing by Towson’s Feet on the Street block parties featuring local bands.”

“After the party winds down, crowds saunter down Allegheny Avenue, the town’s main downtown strip, to local eateries and bars.”

“I’m ecstatic,” said executive director Nancy Hafford. “I can’t believe it. Our tiny little block parties made the national news.”

Towson is prominently becoming one of the best places to live for those who seek an exciting and stylish yet professional atmosphere, with close proximity to both cities and country.

A classy piece of little Italy right in Towson – molta buona!

If you’re craving Piatto Misto or a simple, appetizing pasta dish, within reach of home in Towson – perfect for a romantic dinner ‘on the town’, this is your place. An elegant venue, nice menus, professional staff, a good wine list and complex, topped with chef-inspired dishes courtesy of the Troia family, natives of Naples, Italy. This is not your typical Italian eatery, which would be more your common restaurant with multiple varieties of spaghetti specials, but a real, authentic Italian restaurant. Similar boasting reviews are found on TripAdvisor and The Baltimore Sun: Cafe Troia has been explained as a a white-tablecloth restaurant that has managed to survive, even flourish, for over twenty years. The staff and service are ranked as “professional, if not always perfect”. This is more of a special occasion location for Towson, yet the lunch can be a relative bargain and perfect for business meetings, etc. The food and service at Cafe Troia are said to be even worlds better than most of the places in Little Italy of downtown Baltimore.
